Sublime Text 2

Sublime Text 2 is a code text editor for Linux, Mac & Windows. It has a clean User Interface with several colour schemes to choose from, full screen mode, side-by-side editing, multi select.

Syntax Hightlighting

Languages inclule: C, C++, C#, CSS, D, Erlang, Groovy, Haskell, HTML, Java, JavaScript, LaTeX, Lisp, Lua, Markdown, Matlab, OCaml, Perl, PHP, Python, R, Ruby, SQL, TCL, Textile and XML.

Multi-selection

Multi-selection allows you to have multiple cursors on the page, this can save a lot of time.

To highlight all occurrences of word click on the word and click (Ctrl+d), each repeated (Ctrl+d) will select the next occurrence of the word and (Alt+F3) will select all.
To add multiple cursors anywhere desired Ctrl+Click the desired locations
To add a cursor at the end of several lines highlight a block of text and press(Crtl+Shift+l)

Multiple Themes

Sublime Text 2 has 22 different themes to choose from.

To change the theme select Preferences (menu) --> Color Scheme --> (theme e.g. Monokai)

Navigation

Minimap The minimap makes it easy to quickly navigate the current file.
Tabs Chrome style tabs allow you to easily switch between open files.
Open Folder Sidebar Navigate the file structure and open new files.

Installing Sublime Text 2

  1. First run the following command in the terminal (Ctrl+Alt+t) to add the repository:
    sudo add-apt-repository ppa:webupd8team/sublime-text-2
  2. Now we will update the sources and install Sublime Text 2 by running this command:
    sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install sublime-text

Sublime Text 2 may be downloaded and evaluated for free, however a license must be purchased ($70 USD) for continued use. There is no enforced time limit for the evaluation.
